So,FA and I broke up about 9 months ago. In the last three months I've cut off contact with him except when absolutely necessary and am doing really well. About a month ago I deleted him off of social media and we had done all the practicalities so had no need to be in touch.
Then out of the blue he text asking if I'd taken money out of his account (I have no way of doing this) when I said no, he messaged again a few days later asking me if I was sure. Again I said no. He then said, well I'm going to cancel my card then, which I told him was a good idea considering he had money going missing.
He then said he would no longer be supporting me financially with the care of his dog. A dog he abandoned in the breakup and promised to continue paying for if I looked after it for a year after the breakup til I got back on my feet. Completely out of the blue, no warning.
I calmly replied asking if we could come to a compromise and got no reply. This really is going to screw me over financially and break me heart if I give up the dog.
I am so happy and healthy and just feel like he's trying to fuck with me.
Ugh, this is awful. There's nothing at all you can do about how he's handling this, and I'm sure you know that and are just desperate for a compromise so you aren't hurt some more either by the financial burden or the loss of the dog. Assuming he will be absolutely unhelpful, is there any way you can swing it? Does the dog have unusual expenses? Is there anyone else you can turn to for help?
Try not to let this knock you down- maybe there is a way over it.
I'd rehome your dog, plenty of people in good positions would do it. I've been rescuing and rehoming wildlife and pets for over 10 years, I've rehomed the most obscure animals and birds (that I loved and was invested in totally), and the best part is meeting good people, knowing they are safe.
Then take on a pet you can afford on your own in the long term. There are many types that would love your care and love.
Hannah - I'm not sure what your arrangements are around your dog. I work 9am to 5pm. I walk my dogs before and after I go to work. Either my brother will check in and take my dogs out whilst I work. Or my neighbours whom are animal lovers looks after my dog with their dog while I work.
Not entirely on topic but I rehomed my dog last month, I work way too much and it was brutal but I called a breed specific rescue, they homed her with a foster family and they adopted her! To see the glee on the childrens faces of the adopting family, all of their faces really, made it much easier. My pup is living her best life. I gave her a great gift to ride out her years with lots of attention and love I could never give unless I were home more. A sacrifice I would make again. But yes, very hard. I hope it works out for you!!
