Pete Walker talks about this a lot in his books on CPTSD, the "good enough" stuff, and the "Four F" reactive types.
Like you say, it's about managing expectations and "good enough" is good enough. There is no perfect partner out there. Soul mates do not exist. This way of thinking can extend beyond relationships to jobs, friends, family, anything.
As for being reactive, of the "Fours F's" I'm a classic freezer to such an extent that I suffer from disassociation. Thanks for that stupid reptilian brain!
