Hi Everyone,
So most of us on here have experienced trauma and are either in therapy of working our way towards it.
I've been in cognitive behavioral therapy for 7 years and EMDR most recently for the past year to uncover and reprocess childhood trauma that I've long avoided all of my adult life.
I'm AP moving towards earned Secure for context.
I have also been reading a book called The Body Keeps the Score by Bessel Van Der Kolk, M.D. recommended by my therapist. The book explains how we store trauma in the body and how it affects us both mentally and physiologically.
I'd recommend BOTH as ways to help uncover the painful past and move into a safer present. I'm learning how to re-parent myself as well as find my safe space within me versus looking outward towards my partner.
Just posting here in case anyone has questions about the EMDR process and how its helped me, and also the book is a wonderful resource for us all!

I would love to know if you think EMDR has worked for you and in what way? I looked into it, but from what I read, they say it doesn't work very well for people who are not in touch with their feelings or if it's trauma related to repeated incidents. I didn't think I was a very good candidate for it.

"The body keeps score" reminds me of what my meditation teacher said which is that stress accumulates in the body over time.

A while back...there was a discussion on noticing changes via your body versus your emotions...I thought that was very interesting as I thought there was a tendency for those with AP to notice emotions but be really out of touch with their body and vice versa for DAs. I probably am generalizing it a bit...but I think it is important to have access to both. I believe that by ignoring signals from my body and being much more keyed into my emotions, I have stayed far longer in situations where my body knew it was not right, but my emotions were still keyed in on hope.
Also...as a side note...500 posts/replies seems to be the magic number to become a God on this forum. I wondered if 1,000 would change that title yet again..but neither Juniper or I have changed so I guess Godis the highest status.🙂

APs use hope as their mantra, their beacon of light and DAs have given it up entirely. Secure is probably somewhere in between.

Tracking sleep cycles, diet, pulse etc. Unfortunatly theres no one-stop shop gadget that makes it easy, but I theory it sounds like something that would be very useful for insecures who are not good at understanding their feelings.
