Running on Empty absolutely resonated for me. I read it 2 or 3 times.
My parents got pregnant with me while they were in college after getting pregnant on their 2nd date. They were the definition of emotionally immature, and my childhood theme I'd say was "benign neglect." As a result, my lovebucket has always felt empty. Like you, I wasn't abused, no obvious major trauma, just this underlying low-grade despair that I still struggle to shake off in middle-age.
I definitely join you in recommending that book.
